My brother seemed to have the mindset of a toddler until I talked him into joining me for a visit to a baby store. While we were there he wandered over to a section of the store where they had displayed some toddler bedding. The toddler bed bedding that caught his eye had been included in one of the store’s toddler bedding sets. It contained colorful drawings of football helmets and football symbols. I think my brother wanted a set of linens like that for his own bed. Unfortunately, that was not at all the sort of linen that I needed to buy. Although I was interested in buying some sort of bedding set, toddler linens were not what I was after. I needed something for the bed of a newborn baby. More importantly, I needed something for the bed of a girl baby. My brother did not seem to grasp the reason why I had chosen to visit that store. He insisted on looking at more of the toddler bedding. He found some that contained many of the characters from the Peanuts comic strip. He found others that contained NASCAR symbols. He even found some that contained various dinosaurs. The sheets with the dinosaurs surprised me, so I mentioned them to my aunt. She told me about a friend of my father’s, a man who once had a 5-year old son that was crazy about dinosaurs. Unfortunately, that man and his wife had brought their dinosaur-crazy son to Disneyland long before the present-day dinosaur rides had been added to that theme park. My aunt said that while she was doing volunteer work in West Hollywood she met some 7-year old boys who loved dinosaurs. My aunt makes a habit of observing what interests young boys, because she is learning how to write for children’s magazines. So far she has written articles on cowboys and electricity. I do not believe there are any present-day toddler bedding sets that have pictures of cowboys, and I do not know exactly what one would put on bed linen to represent electricity. I do know that my brother has now taken a greater interest in be linen. That could be good news for the next woman in our family who gives birth to a baby boy. My brother will be all set to purchase that little boy lots of interesting bedding. Of course my brother’s tastes do not match at all with my present needs. I assume that I will need to look further if I want to buy some baby bedding. If I do not soon find something, then maybe I will need to start examining toddler bedding. For me that bedding would need to have pictures of things other than dinosaurs or football helmets. That day when my brother started looking at all of the linen for toddlers I saw some with pictures of Disney characters. I especially liked the linen with the Pooh theme. When it gets to the point where I must get linen for a girl toddler’s bed, I think that I would like to buy that Pooh-themed linen. I suspect that the time for that purchase will be here before I know it. written by Sue Cher |
